Where to stay for Manchester Pride

The hangover has barely eased but thoughts are already turning to next year’s shebang, and with a few big events taking place in the city over the bank holiday weekend, booking your place to sleep sooner rather than later will help control your budget.

There are a couple of hotels in Manchester’s famous gay village, but as nice as they are, I would personally avoid them over pride weekend. The crowds are huge, the noise is immense and, having a quiet spot away from the party will give your liver a much needed break.

Fortunately, there’s some really decent hotels within a few minutes walk of the village and all of the frivolities.

Holiday Inn City Centre

A 2 minute walk from the top end of Canal Street, and less than 5 minutes from Piccadilly station, the location is spot on.

The canal side bar bangs out the tunes to get you in the party mood plus there’s a restaurant and excellent breakfast buffet to line your stomach. The rooms are modern and spacious and, importantly, well soundproofed.

Doubletree by Hilton Piccadilly

Across the street from the Holiday Inn, the location is the primary reason for choosing the Doubletree, alongside the welcome chocolate chip cookie.

I found the rooms a little bland but the bar and restaurant had a great vibe and good food.

Abode Manchester

A little bit closer to town but still around a 5 minute walk from both Canal Street and Piccadilly station, the Abode is one of my fave hotels in Manchester. I love the style of the bedrooms but recommend avoiding the “comfortable” room types if staying more than 1 night as they’re quite small. The Abode has one of the best breakfasts too.

Hotel Brooklyn

A cracking hotel, which we stayed at just after its opening in 2020. Pride was (obviously) cancelled that year but we still made our annual pilgrimage to Canal Street for subdued celebrations.

It’s that bit further from Piccadilly station, about 10 minutes, but 2 minutes away from the Village via Sackville Street. You’re also steps from one of the best parade viewing points, at the junction of Portland and Princess Streets. The downside to this is the pride festival is literally behind the hotel so expect it to be noisy.

Clayton Hotel

A relative newcomer to the Manchester hotel scene, this is the only hotel on this list that I haven’t stayed at but have included because if it’s location – right next door to the Brooklyn.

I usually book my hotel stays through hotels.com. I’m a big fan of their reward program which gives 10% of your pre-tax spend as a credit towards a new booking after just 10 nights. Better still, you can stack their rewards program with 10% cash back from Topcashback.
